Happy New Year 2016: It’s A Time Of Possibilities, Hope, And Joy

Hey, it’s 2016 – Happy New Year, friends, family, and furry forest dwellers!

Today we have a simple message of hope that we hope will inspire our GANG collaborators, friends, and anyone who may happen to come across this article.  We’ll try to keep it short since we know, by the time this goes out, everyone will be drunk, sleeping, and/or hungover.

Now to get a little serious…

Bad Things Turned Good.  In 2015, many bad things overshadowed otherwise good, productive, and fun times.  Some of us dealt with deaths of close family members, battles with cancer, financial struggle, loneliness, and overall loss of hope.  Many of you may not know this but I lost my aunt this year and she was like a second mother to me.  It really knocked the wind out of my sails along with other bad news but having The GANG, our community here at GeekyAntics, really helped me out.

I learned a lot of things about myself, our audience, and what GeekyAntics can and should become.  Mainly, everything positive that happened reinforced my beliefs that…

  • People are fundamentally good.
  • Small victories can lead to big things.
  • The storm always comes before major break-throughs.
  • This network truly is about collaboration and support.

The GeekyAntics Network is exactly where we need it to be right now and where we expected to be right now.  Heck, we’ve done so much more than we expected considering I’m bootstrapping everything and we’ve encountered so much adversity.  We could not have done it without YOU!

Unlimited Possibilities.  One thing thing that has helped us all out is having an abundance mindset.  There truly is a world of unlimited possibilities out there and, really, the only thing that limits our growth personally and as brands is our attitudes.  So many folks give up right when they are on the verge of a major break-through and we’ve been working hard to help those types of folks stay strong and focused.

While we are still very much committed to individual brands (mainly streamers, writers, game devs, and podcasters), it is absolutely necessary to partner up with bigger brands.  We’ve teamed up with tons of people in 2015 but two brands stand out the most: Martin Septic Services, based out of Middle Georgia (not Middle Earth), and Unified Combat League, based out of Seattle and sometimes Canada.

Vince Martin Septic Tank Service | Eatonton, Gray, Milledgeville & Middle Georgia | http://martinseptictanksga.com

Martin Septic Tank Services (also known as Martin’s Septic Service) has been an awesome sponsor.  Vince Martin is a pleasure to work with and one of the coolest guys I know in Georgia.  Teaming up with a local company in such a niche may seem silly to some but our goal is to align ourselves with brands that are people and people that are brands.  That is, we want to work with brands that are authentic, transparent, and approachable.

On the Martin Septic Services Facebook page, you’ll see exactly what I mean when I talk about being social with social media.  Vince Martin and I work together to bring updates that are as fun as they are useful.  Content covers a wide range of goodies from home improvement to funny pet memes to hot deals.  The fine balance of curating content and providing original content is key and you’ll notice Vince Martin hardly spams about himself or his business so, when he does self-promote, it counts!

Cats Vs. Dogs – Why Cats Are Awesome Yet Often Misunderstood – PLUS A Poll!

I love all animals but it’s no secret that I have a soft spot for cats.  Here is a brief love letter to cats, the under-appreciated stars of social media and homes around the world.  Don’t forget to take the polls!

Why do we love cats so much?  Maybe it’s the fact that they are not easily won over.  You really have to earn a cat’s love and trust.  Maybe it’s the subtle ways they show their appreciation.  It’s like figuring out a mystery.  I find myself fine-tuning my observation skills just trying to observe our cats.  Maybe it’s simply because they’re just so cute.  Just look at this kitten below, just begging to be rubbed and/or played with!

If you really can’t stand the “cat propaganda” (I’m looking at YOU Kevin..  LOL), scroll down for the poll..  but, really, hear me out.  I have a case to make here! *wink*

Super cute kitten is laying down, ready to play and/or be rubbed!

Cats are independent and self-sufficient.  They’re arguably moody and choosy.  Some consider this a bonus, others feel it simply makes them jerks.  I say they just have more personality than your average dog because, let’s face it: most dogs will be your best friend once you feed them.  For those that think cats have no loyalties or are indifferent, maybe you have trouble forging bonds.  I’ve had cats wait at the door when they accidentally got left outside.  Bloo often knocks on my door just to hang out with me in the man cave, too.

Bloo In A Human Pose | Bloo Says, "Sup."

Bloo chillin’ like a villain.

I have a theory about people that don’t like cats: they are usually people with serious trust issues and/or a huge need to be the center of attention.  Cats have a way of seeing into your soul so, if you have something to hide, chances are you won’t like cats.  So far, it checks out with everyone I know.  One friend whom I love dearly comes to mind: they don’t add people to Facebook unless they vet them first..  And they use alter egos and pseudonyms when they’re online.  They’re the kind of people that freak out when you tag them or mention them in a social share.  That level of paranoia and anti-social behavior surely does not mesh with feline co-habitation!

Kitty says, "Why don't you love me?"

Why don’t you love me? *tilts head*

Here are some links related to weird people who hate cats.  It seems I’m not the only one suspcious of animal haters and cat agnostics!

In my experience, hardcore anti-cat people are abrasive, insecure, paranoid, or just plain annoying.  Coincidence?  Perhaps.  Correlation does not equate causation..  Of course, my cats have had a good track record of picking out the really turds in my circles of friends and family.  I feel cats are more connected with the spirit world, emotions, and impending threats..  Most dogs we’ve had just bark at just about anything because, well, they’re lovable dumb creatures like that.

The following is our latest poll on the @GeekyAntics Twitter..  Hopefully it doesn’t break anything!  You should vote for cats on Twitter, too – before it’s too late!

COMING SOON To Geeky Antics Network Global

We’re building the GeekyAntics Network to go beyond typical podcast networks and media outlets.  Our goal is to set up automated and manual systems to help everyone grow their brand, maximize social media, and establish consistent, sustainable results.  We want to go beyond the “set it and forget it” mentality that a majority of online marketers have.  By working together and engaging in authentic, meaningful interactions, we are not only growing our individual brands but also forging relationships and inspiration to last a lifetime.  Remember: you are not alone.

There are lots of features and talents we’re working with to give content creators options and build G.A.N.G. (Geeky Antics Network Global) to be a one-stop shop for anyone looking to get into the gaming industry, writing, streaming, and/or podcasting.  Many of us have been in the field for many years and now we’re working together to lighten our individual workloads and stay motivated.  Here are some of the things in the pipelines:

  • New GeekyAntics Foundry feed with syndicated and exclusive podcasts.
  • GANG Minis feed with shorter podcasts and non-weekly shows.
  • Affordable podcast hosting alternatives for friends on PodBean, Podomatic, Libsyn, Spreaker, etc.
  • Managed services for podcasters and streamers including promotions, SEO, coaching, and social media management.
  • Branded short links and e-mail aliases to lend more credibility and trust to our independent contributors.
  • Custom reports, analytics, and insights formatted to provide actionable data, not mere numbers.
  • More premium services (including web design/optimization, graphic design, ghostwriting, copyediting, etc.) and referral directory!
  • …And other goodies to bring our friends unique, remarkable content and help content creators grow!

Save Or Shave The Beard? #SaveOrShave #SaveObiBeard #ShaveObiBeard

To shave the beard or to save the beard?

THAT is the question.

Hey everyone ObioneX2 back again!  It’s here..  It’s time to decide my fate: save or shave The Beard.

The Beard means alot to me and really want to keep it but my wife, Fefela, really wants it gone.  What do you guys think?  Vote will your wallet!

…Well, you don’t have to vote with your wallet but it helps.  After the poll, I’ll share how scoring will work.

(If the poll does not display properly, try this link – http://poll.fm/5erz7)

Optional:

The poll will be open throughout October and possibly into #Movember, which would be ironic if I do end up having to get rid of the beard.  (Yogi:  We found a loophole.. You can keep the mustache so that still counts for Movember!)  Here is how points will be counted:

  • Vote on PollDaddy = 1 point
  • Click on Save/Shave Beard Links = 5 points
  • Donations to Save/Save = 10 points*
  • Wishlist Purchase = 15 points*

*Must include in donation note which one you support (save or shave).

Here is our old poll, already in progress!  This one may be counted in the event of a tie.  http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=55f1cb6be4b0c3d16faab68e

We Need YOU! Another 48-Hour Live Stream #TheGANG #Anime #Halloween #Cosplay #SupportSmallerStreams

Hey GANG, Obi “The Beard” here!

It’s 48-hour live stream time guys.  Well, it will be soon enough.  Our last over 60-hour stream marathon was a huge hit and we want to do more fun events like this..  Of course, we need your help!

Our very first GeekyAntics stream marathon lasted almost 72 hours – CRAZY!

We need streamers from #TheGANG stream team to help with the 48-hour live stream over at http://www.twitch.tv/geekyantics – it’ll be fun and productive!  If you are interested please message me on obionex2@geekyantics.net or Yogi on yogizilla@geekyantics.net – the more, the merrier.  You can also come hang with and message us on TeamSpeak:

promethium.typefrag.com:5015

sonic_the_hedgehog_inuyasha_anime_party__by_shinaishadow-d5pmk6d

Time and date is yet to be announced, though we are aiming for late October.  If we can do it in time for Halloween, we’re hoping to have some horror and cosplay themes, too!

Of course, it all depends on the response we get.  Keep in mind that, while we don’t have a huge following on Twitch, our audience is highly-engaged so this is a great way to help build each other up.  Self-promotion is totally allowed and encouraged!

Yogi Says: Absolutely!  With a stream team or network, you get out of it what you put in.  If everyone cross-promotes and streams to our channel once a week, we’d all see exponential results.  The model is proven but we need participation and PASSION.  Don’t be shy!

Thank you everyone!

~Obionex2

P.S.  Expect lots of anime talk when Yogizilla and F8TL_Blades stream.  Maybe we can get Morganafreya, Cupcakenoms, and Cupcakeeenvy, and JanelNo5 in on the fun (and, by “fun”, we’re talking anime and cosplay, of course).  w00t!!!halloween-bw-black-orange-undies-wallpaper_1920x1080

#TWTT | #DoctorWho Dark Journey Series 2 Episode 6 “Lost Souls” WORLD PREMIERE!

It’s finally here – the latest episode of Doctor Who Dark Journey Series 2 (and TWTT)!

Greetings Geeksters, Tangent Seekers, Whovians, geeks, nerds, and everyone in between.  We have a real treat for you today.  Pardon me while I rant a bit…

Episode 6, “Lost Souls”, is the end of the story thus far and the beginning of new things.  I love the dialogue in this episode so, when AM Audio Media asked us to be part of their launch event and they gave us THIS episode, I was particularly giddy.  The writing in Dark Journey is smart, cheeky, and just plain BRILLIANT!  I love how the show pokes fun at the tropes we’ve come to love in Doctor Who, while infusing elements from the mythos of other creative works.

But, enough from me, here are the video clips from today’s live broadcast.  You’ll want to watch #TWTT Episode 31.5 for the actual Dark Journey episode.  I know banter is something people tend to complain about when it comes to podcasts but I quite enjoyed learning more about Andrew “Chompers” Chalmers when he is not playing The Doctor.  This guy is a true geek and an absolute pleasure to hang out with.  Heck, we have a half-hour pre-show and we’re still chatting right now.  Gotta love the power of the Interwebz!

“Caretakers” – Who Will Watch Over Us?

They watch over us as we grow Providing love and kindness in a harsh world Under their protection we learn How the world works How we work in the world Then time passes and the roles may shift

Providing love and kindness in a harsh world

Under their protection we learn

How the world works

How we work in this world

Then time passes and the roles may shift

In their old age they need us to help them

To use the very ideas they gave us

We watch over them as they did for us

Guiding them as they grow weak

Yet even then they are still watching out for us

Ensuring we have learned the lessons we needed to know

And so the mantle is passed on

Now we are the Caretakers

DadsOfDestiny Cystic Fibrosis Charity Stream – In Memory Of Josh Stokell

BreatheEasy_Banner-300x69

One of the greatest tragedies of the human condition is that great people are only remembered when they pass away.  Look back to any of the greatest artists, inventors, humanitarians, etc.  They were all celebrated well after their death, not during their life.  The recently departed Josh Stokell seems to be an exception to this and the tragedy here is that he was taken away from us at such a young age.  Guardian down…

josh-stokell-1979-2015-fallen-guardian

Josh fought against cystic fibrosis well over 30 years and dedicated his life to developing treatment and, ultimately, a cure.  Sadly, Josh lost his battle but not until he made great strides both in microbiology and gaming.  I did not know Josh personally but, from what I gather, he was greatly appreciated during his relatively short time on earth.  Hearing his Dads Of Destiny clanmates share war stories and anecdotes about their Destiny adventures with this beloved fallen Guardian brings a smile to my face because I realize Josh lived a fuller life than most people do going into their 80s and 90s.

The story of this everyday hero hits home for me because Josh was my age before leaving us.  It seems like, everywhere I turn, people are affected by cancer, fibromyalgia, and cystic fibrosis.  You rarely hear about how people affected by chronic or terminal illness cope with it and live purposeful lives.  When you’re ridden with disease and ailments, it’s easy to be bitter but I hear nothing but good things about Josh.  He was passionate about his work, Destiny, and people as a whole.

josh-stokell-1979-2015-fallen-guardian-bitter-beer-face

The DadsOfDestiny have teamed up with several streamers and promoters to host a 48-hour streaming event.  The Breathe Easy charity stream is happening right now.  The goal is to continue Josh Stokell’s work to fight cystic fibrosis.  They’ve raised a good bit of money so far but, more importantly, they’ve raised awareness of this terrible condition.  The Destiny community has really rallied and even Bungie has supported the effort with codes and social media marketing.

HeroesOfTheStormBuildGuide PRESENTS HotS As A League Of Legends Player

My Personal Thoughts on Heroes of the Storm as an Avid LoL Gamer

Guest Post By TheShadeBlade

Presented By HeroesOfTheStormBuildGuide.com

I’m known as TheShadeBlade in Heroes of the Storm and Katrian in League of Legends. Currently, I am ranked Platinum and ended last season as Platinum 1 after being dropped out of Diamond for inactivity during the last couple of months of the ranked season in League. I have been an avid MOBA player for the past 4 years and have experience in some of the most popular MOBAs to hit the gaming community. In my personal opinion, Heroes of the Storm has put its own unique twist on the MOBA scene and will be a big breakthrough for the casual player.

Heroes Of The Storm - Diablo Expansion - The Eternal Conflict - Heaven Vs. Hell

The Eternal Conflict: Heaven Vs. Hell – COMING SOON to Heroes Of The Storm, Diablo fans!

HotS Battlegrounds: A New Experience With Every Map

Stepping into Heroes of the Storm, the biggest change that has set this game apart from League of Legends and other similar MOBAs is the fact that they offer quite a few different maps to play on. League of Legends only offers a single 5v5 map, and then two less competitive maps that are hardly played. Heroes of the Storm randomizes the map that players are thrown into, which requires adaptability and strategy to achieve victory as each map has a unique set of objectives. This keeps the game interesting, and will be a big factor in professional play once Heroes of the Storm finally hits release and is able to make their mark in eSports.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  We took a few weeks to get this published.  Apologies..  Heroes Of The Storm is now officially out as a full release and the Eternal Conflict Diablo-themed content will be part of the ongoing efforts to draw in new players.  We’re very excited about what Blizzard is doing here!  ~Yogizilla

AM Audio Media Interviews With Rikki Wright & Andrew Chalmers!

It’s finally here – the AM Audio Media interview with Rikki Wright and Andrew Chalmers!

If you’re not familiar with the fine folks behind the Doctor Who Dark Journey radio drama, check out the embedded #TWTT video or podcast below.  You can also visit the official AM Audio Media web site, home to delicious Doctor Who fandoms.  Skip ahead for breaking news from our friends at AMAM and the interview double-header.  It’s FANTASTIC!

As some of you know, I had a recent hard drive crash right after one of my computers started to act up.  We’ve been recovering from the losses but fortunately we had backups an the support of fine folks like Mike T.  He’s even sending us some new Doctor Who sound bits to use on our soundboard and post-productions.  The one and only MA Tamburro also added some breaking Whovian news that is somewhat exclusive so – YAY!

BTW We’re planning a launch of Series 2 of Dark Journey at the end of the month if you’d like to mention that to your listeners. We’d love to be on the show at some point in June and intro a full new episode.

So it turns out we are posting these interviews right on time, after all (PHEW).  Stand by…  AM Audio Media nterviews warping in!

I’ve always been a fan of third person games, from the Doom and Duke Nukem era through Goldeneye through to current incarnation of the Grand Theft Auto series.  I like driving games too so when you combine them into something like Driver or Getaway, that’s what really cranks my chain… or floats my boat or… erm… let’s just say I’m particularly fond of them.  ~Rikki Wright a.k.a. “Just Fred”

Three Pantomimes & Interchangeable Pertwee Head Scarecrows

TWTT:  Before we get into your work with Dark Journey, tell us a bit about yourself. What do you do for fun, for example?
Rikki Wright:  For fun, I run marathon’s to raise money for various charities, I am an activist for certain group that promotes freedom of speech but who shall remain “anonymous”, and I actively get involved in the rescue of puppies from illegal dog fighting rings.  Really?  No, not really.  I rarely leave the comfort of my Lazy-Boy recliner where I spend most days as close to horizontal as possible while watching reruns of 1980’s game shows, eating cheesies and scratching myself with a medium sized stick (interestingly I found that a large stick whilst providing greater coverage was too heavy and hence required a greater consumption of cheesies to generate the energy to use properly).  Really?  Also no, not really.  The reality is almost less interesting than both of those extremes.  As a father of 2, I spend most of my “spare” time running kids from swimming lessons to hockey practice and birthday parties.  I am on the board and coach at my local rugby club and in those rarest of moments when I do find time for myself, I pretend to be an actor both on stage, on camera and in the case of Doctor Who Dark Journey, behind a microphone.  Occasionally I turn my pen towards paper and have written (and produced) three pantomimes.
What does Doctor Who mean to you?  Does it have a special place in your heart?
As a child growing up in the 80’s in England, Doctor Who was quite popular and so when I think of Doctor Who (the classic era) it reminds me of my childhood.  More recently however, with the latest regenerations of the Doctor, it reminds me that my wife often goes to bed much earlier than me and thus I get free reign to watch whatever I want on TV!  Mixed emotions then.
EDITOR’S NOTE:  I know the feeling well..  My family hogs up the big screen TV..   But, on a positive note, I got my anti-sci-fi wife mildly interested in Doctor Who – it’s a start!
How did you come to be involved with the Dark Journey radio drama?
I became involved in Dark Journey after answering a casting call I came across online. I auditioned over the phone reading from a play I performed in when I was about 15 years old… so just a few years ago.
What is your fondest memory of recording with the cast (thus far)?
Andrew and I share a very similar sense of humour (or as he would pronounce it “youmer”) – recording with the cast was always a challenge as Andrew and I would crack jokes (often with double entendres providing the punchlines).  The challenge was always continuing recording after a good giggle and trying to keep a straight face.  I’d regularly have to close my eyes or turn away from Andrew to avoid making eye contact and cracking up again.  Unprofessional… maybe! I will not miss the small and overly warm recording studio that somehow managed to create the most unusual smells with no apparent source material.
Who is your favorite Doctor?   Least favorite?
I have a romanticised idea of liking the third doctor Jon Pertwee because of another TV character he played on Worzel Gummidge (a scarecrow with interchangeable heads!) I really should go back and watch some of the episodes from that era, particularly as he is often compared to the current Doctor Peter Capaldi whom I have a difficult time warming to.  If I were to pick a favourite Doctor (who I can actually remember clearly), without a doubt it would be Tennant. In terms of least favourite Doctor, I will probably be lambasted for this but I didn’t like Matt Smith, too quirky and full of self importance… although that could describe most Doctors.
